DEFINITIONS - It is common to be unsure or confused about the terms used in the financial industry. We have included several definitions we hope clarify your understanding before you invest. Click on a letter below which is the same as the first letter of the term you wish to define:

  Margin – buying a stock or bond on borrowed funds. The margin is the amount the customer puts up  
     
  Market Price – the latest price of a security (or other asset) in the market where the security (or other asset) is traded  
     
  Match – the portion of a participant’s retirement account which has been contributed by the employer and is linked to an elective deferral contribution  
     
  Maturity – the date when a debt obligation is due to be repaid  
     
  MERVAL – the primary stock exchange index in Buenos Aires, Argentina  
     
  Money Purchase Pension Plan – a defined contribution plan under which the employer is subject to minimum funding requirements. Contributions are usually based on each participant’s compensation  
     
  Money Market Fund – a mutual fund that aims at maximum safety, high liquidity, and (usually) a constant price for its shares, including certificates of deposit (CDs), commercial paper, and Treasury Bills (T-Bills)  
     
  Municipal Bond – a bond issued by a state or local government. The interest is usually exempt from federal income tax  
     
  Mutual Fund – an investment that pools the funds of many investors to provide them with professional management, diversification, and other advantages
